Goal Setting
In order to experience positive outcomes in therapy, you must practice committed action. According to Russ Harris, leading Acceptance and Commitment Therapy theorist, committed action refers to the process of effectively managing both what we do with our physical body, as well as what we do in our inner world with our thoughts and feelings. Your counselor can guide you through this process by first helping you to identify values that reflect your desired qualities of psychological health, values such as compassion, acceptance, or responsibility. Then, based on these values, you and your counselor will collaborate to identify specific tasks that become your goals for eliminating self-defeating behaviors in your life.
